The most anticipated destination on my list.

205 E Houston St, New York, NY 10002, USA

CAN WE JUST APPRECIATE HOW GORGEOUS THIS LOOKS. My god. I have dreamed about eating pastrami on rye for years. Every single expectation and hype was 100% met and exceeded. We got a pastrami reuben on rye, a side of pickles and a pastrami on rye.

Where to begin. We watched the cutter make this beautiful sandwich lightning fast and I was utterly mesmerised. He gave us a little taste test of the pastrami and we nearly fainted on the spot. "Is that ok?" UH YES. We very very very carefully carried our giant tray over a table and devoured these beauties. Okay so the reuben was my favourite. The sauce. I cannot even describe it. But it made this sandwich for me. I think was Russian dressing, but that with the smokey pastrami was b r i l l i a n t. The sourkrout and cheese was fantastic. The rye bread was out of this world. So fresh and spongey. Just perfect for this type of sandwich. The pastrami. My god. I cannot put it into words. I have never had anything better. It was the juiciest most succulent pieces of meat in the universe. Smokey and tasty and just melted in the mouth. There was fatty pieces that literally just melted away and gave heaps of flavour. I have to say 1 half was enough for me. It began to get sickly after a while, utterly delicious but made you feel very full very quickly. And we forgot that we had another whole sandwich to conquer. Luckily we got the pickles because they gave so much relief especially the really fresh (half sour) pickles.

So this was the pastrami on rye. And after eating the reuben, this was way more heavier. The pastrami shined through more in this sandwich, but become way too sickly after a while. The mustard was really nice and the rye of course was still brilliant. If I ever get to lucky to come back, I would order the reuben. I have to say, they were expensive. I get that it's super famous and touristy but I think it's still too much. I mean it's good for 2 small eaters who can share one, but if you're after a whole sandwich it's gonna break the bank a bit. But it is also like the best sandwich you'll ever eat.
