Philly's iconic food hall

51 N 12th St, Philadelphia, PA 19107, USA

This was amazing. I wish Sydney would adopt a similar concept to this because it was such a vibrant community of food and produce. There were so many venders, from fresh meat or veg produce to hot food and desserts. We walked around for nearly an hour just watching venders make their speciality foods so fresh right in front of our eyes. Also trying to pick which one to go to! We had previously known about the Kevin Parker Soul food vender here who specialise in southern cooking. But there was so much choice here we decided to go with a better looking place. We tried the mac n cheese and a piece of cornbread from Franks A Lot. They had like 5 flavours of cornbread including banana which was a bit mind-blowing but we stuck with the OG. I can tell you that this was to die for. The mac n cheese was so damn creamy and flavourful, and had those crunchy topping bits all through it (which is the best part). The corn bread oh my god. I think I have officially fallen in love with corn bread on this trip. Just look how golden and crunchy those edges and crust are, and the inside was fluffy and buttery and just perfection. We knew we were going for a big dinner so we just got this for lunch, but could not go past this amazing donut vender Beiler's Donuts.

We watched a few of these girls make donuts and fritters by hand, kneading and cutting the dough, frying them and glazing the crap out of them. It was unbelievable to watch. There were these barrels of frosting and and glazes that looked fantastic. So we tried a OG glazed donut and an apple fritter. I guarantee you that these were the best donuts I've ever tried. The glaze on the OG didn't look like much, but it was perfect. The dough itself was the so fluffy and chewy. There was so much air and elasticity in the dough that made it just the best texture for a donut. The flavour of the glaze was to die for. The apple fritter was my favourite though. The outside was MEGA crispy and crunchy, but again so airy inside. The apple flavour was marbled through the inside dough and was so tasty. The outside glaze was perfection and made the outside even more crispy which I loved. All I can say is that ever other donut I try from now on will be ruined because of how good this was.
